Mimmo Canaglia

Mimmo from Messina Cristalli di Sale, known as Mimmo Canaglia or simply Mimmo, was born in a stable in Palermo, surrounded by yellowfin tuna and a stolen Fiat Punto.

From a young age, he developed a creative and cross-disciplinary approach to cooking: he realized he didn’t want to copy any recipe. He also understood he didn’t want to make the same dish twice. This approach is reflected in his artistic production.

He does not have a unified poetic vision: he does not investigate, describe, or depict. His highest ambition is irony.

He believes that making art is a serious matter, as long as one manages not to take oneself too seriously.

WORKS

Psychoplants

The Psychoplants project arises from the reflection that plants are becoming increasingly rare in urban centers. In our daily reality, nature is an exception: an aesthetic embellishment at best; a mistake, most of the time, like weeds growing through the sidewalks.

As if under the effect of psychedelic substances, the Psicopiante seem like hallucinations created by our minds. In reality, they are simply photographs of plants, whose colors are then altered in post-production.

Finally, with printing and posting on a wall, the total alienation of the human being from flora is completed.

Is a photograph of a plant more interesting than the plant itself?
